2017 Art Exhibition

Our Art Exhibition theme for 2017 is 'We are Elm Park.' We decided to look at the flowers we could see around our school.

Room 4 practiced sketching the flowers before we decided to make them using paper. We looked at our sketches to see how many petals our flowers had. We all made two flowers that were the same that we had seen around the school; a daisy and a daffodil. The other flowers were chosen by us.

We made vases out of paper and cut out little designs.

Amelia: 'I made a purple vase and made some purple flowers too.'

All About Shapes

This term Room 4 has been learning about Shapes. We have been looking around our school for different shapes that we can find (we found lots on the playground!)
After we found the shapes, we looked at the qualities of each shape, like how many sides they had.
Miss Donnell took us outside and we drew some of the shapes we had seen around our school. In the middle we wrote how many sides they had.
These are my shapes.

Finding Punctuation

WALT: Identify and find punctuation in our reading.

Amelia: 'I know a full stop and a question mark and a exclamation mark.'

Reaching 100 ticks

Congratulations Amelia on reaching 100 ticks. You have been showing Respect, Resilience and Responsibility throughout the term. Keep up the great mahi!

Writing for the future

For our 50th Jubilee Room 4 decided to write about what they love about Elm Park School. We brainstormed some ideas about the things we do in the classroom, people who make our day better and our favourite things to do at morning tea and lunchtime. These stories went into a time capsule that will be opened when the school turns 100.

Making my clown with Dayton

Room 4 have been working with our buddy class for the last two terms making clowns out of recycled materials. These clowns were made using paper, toilet rolls, pom poms and spare supplies found around the classroom. Dayton helped Amelia curl her clown's hair and hot glue gun on his nose. We think our clowns look awesome!

I am an awesome reader!

We are learning to read my story again using expression.
'I can use my expression all the time. I think it is easy now.'

Maths Groupings

We are learning to know groupings within 10.
'My groups have two colours; purple and yellow.'

Explaining our Awesome Stories

We are learning to explain what my picture is about in my own
words.
' I like writing in Room 4. I write lots of stories about me and
Mummy.'

Celebrating Celebrations: Dragon Boat Festival

We are learning to design and create dragon boat paddles.

This term Room 4 have been learning about different celebrations. We have been learning
about the Dragon Boat Festival this week. We decided to design our own dragon boat
paddles because we liked the different designs that some of the racers had. We used
pastels to create bright colours so our paddles would be seen in the water.

Using Expression during Reading

We are learning to use extra expression when we are reading.
'I use expression when I am reading the story.'

Making Patterns with Teddy Bear

We are learning to find and continue patterns.
'I can make lots of different patterns with the bears. Sometimes it is
tricky when there are two numbers missing.'
